Are first level subfolders really a problem? Many people use them for keywords (me too).

I never think subfolders are a problem. they really help organize content.

the only time folders would hurt you is if you made your stuff so long that people had a hard time copying your url without it breaking multiple lines.

shorter is better for ease of remembering, but folders are good in my eyes.

I try to keep my pages as close to root as possible. When Google used to show ghost PR on pages, it dropped the PR one count for each \"/\", so it indicated to me that they consider pages closer to the root more important.

Interesting point, John... it might be worth leaving a lot of things in the root folder, then... thanks.
